Over 100 Pounds Later: How a Little Help Opened Up My Life
Welcome to Sacred Musings, a space where I share reflections from the heart on love, life, caregiving, and the lessons that shape us into who we are. My hope is that these words bring comfort, perspective, and inspiration to anyone walking their own path of healing and growth.
My weight loss journey began in late 2024, and it began with a little help.
I want to be honest about that because asking for support was an important part of my story. I used a compounded prescription medication through Hers, sometimes called ForHers. For me, the biggest change was the quieting of what I call “food noise.”
I wasn’t experiencing it as a loss of appetite. I could still recognize hunger and enjoy eating. What changed was how often I thought about food when I already knew I wasn’t hungry.
That constant mental conversation became quieter. I could turn my attention toward other things. Over time, with changes in my eating and activity, I lost more than 100 pounds.
And my life began to open up.
The changes that mattered most
As a nurse, I understand the significance of blood pressure, blood sugar, and kidney function. Experiencing improvements in my own health made those numbers deeply personal.
My blood pressure and blood sugar came under control. I no longer have prediabetes or hypertension, and my kidney function has improved beyond the stage 3 range I had previously been in.
Those changes mean a great deal to me. Alongside them came more energy, more movement, and more opportunities to enjoy my life.
I also started having a whole lot of fun with fashion. Getting dressed became something to look forward to. Exploring different styles and enjoying how I felt in my clothes became another joyful part of the journey.
From walking to a half-marathon
As my energy increased, I began exploring what my body could do.
I completed a 5K, then a 10K, and eventually worked my way up to a half-marathon.
A half-marathon!
There was something powerful about gradually building toward that distance. Each milestone gave me another reason to trust myself and appreciate my body. I had a lot of fun along the way, too.
An unexpected opportunity with Hers
My experience also led to opportunities I hadn’t anticipated. I did paid commercial voice-over work for Hers and participated in content shared on their social media.
Although the commercial recording never aired, I enjoyed the experience. Sharing my story and trying something new became another memorable part of my journey.
What maintenance looks like for me
These days, I focus on maintaining my weight through habits I can keep doing.
I walk daily, stay active, and eat a balanced diet with good sources of protein and nourishing carbohydrates. I drink water throughout the day and keep returning to the everyday choices that support my health.
My routine is something I continue to practice. It takes attention and consistency, and I appreciate what those habits allow me to do.
There is room for support
I’m sharing my story because someone reading this may recognize that feeling of thinking about food even when they aren’t hungry. Someone else may be wondering whether it’s okay to ask for help.
For me, accepting help created room to make changes that became part of my everyday life.
My experience belongs to me, and your needs may be different. A conversation with a qualified healthcare professional can help you explore options that fit your health history and goals.
I’m grateful for the support I received, the work I put in, and the life I’m enjoying today. More energy. Better health measurements. New experiences. Clothes I love wearing. Miles I once had to build toward.
There is so much life to enjoy, and I’m enjoying mine.
